The CCAS Professional Development Award for emerging artists was inaugurated in 2019. Part of the ANU School of Art & Design's Emerging Artists Support Scheme (EASS) the award is intended as an introduction to the professional arts and offers exhibition opportunities, assistance with applications and proposals, references, on going critiques, meetings with visiting artists and curators and on site training.

The recipient of the 2019 Award is Rory Gillen who graduated with Honours from the Photomedia Workshop. His recent body of work has investigated the frictions between machine learning and socially deterministic development, specifically the aesthetics of Nonhuman Bias and its influence on Automation Biases. He is fascinated by the digital paradigm shift toward the fundamental machine readability of objects, exemplified by the digital image.
