Anja Loughhead is a photomedia based artist working with sculpture and assemblage techniques. Utilising photographs sourced from her own family albums these images are coupled with raw and domestic materials to reveal a series of narratives. Drawing from the history of her grandparents immigration to Australia from Finland in 1959, Loughhead’s work explores themes of personal identity and cultural dislocation. In the delibrate manipulation of materials Loughhead continously questions the role of photography as an object of remembrance.
