CAB HUF

UN_Shore

24 May – 2 June 2024, CCAS Manuka

UN_Shore emerges from an immersive exploration during Cab Huf's artist residency on King Island, Tasmania in 2023. Rooted in the windswept landscapes, maritime narratives, and the evocative allure of kelp, this video installation encapsulates the liminality of the shore—a threshold where life and death converge.

In the aftermath of tempests, Bull Kelp masses drift ashore, akin to stranded souls in the sun's embrace. Transforming from supple forms to rigid structures, they harbor transient life within their brittle husks. Through a blend of performance, video, and sculptural elements, Huf delves into the essence of material transience, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in tactile textures and fleeting sensations.

The work navigates a realm where boundaries blur, echoing the perpetual flux of past and present, reality and illusion. Entwined with colonial legacies and the enigmatic aura of Shakespeare's 'The Tempest,' it conjures a narrative that oscillates between magic and menace, inviting reflection on interconnected histories and the complexities of human existence.
