MOTION IN DIVISION

REN GREGORIČIČ

10 - 20 February 2022 @ CCAS MANUKA

Motion In Division is an exhibition by Canberra-based artist Ren Gregorčič on the contemporary concrete-water dynamic. Featuring video, installation and sound the show uses computational fluid simulation and modelling as a method of engaging with the way that concrete infrastructure takes the properties of water - its movement and fluidity - and makes them appear solid. Central to the exhibition is an infinitely looped video work that depicts a body of water steadily flowing through a concrete storm water drain. This scene has been created in reference to a water channel located in Mitchell, Canberra. The accompanying soundtrack is a sonic interpretation of the data from the fluid simulation. This translation is echoed by a lumetricolour scope though which the colour and movement data of the scene can be experienced as a waveform and reflected in a large PVC strip plastic installation that mimics the shape, form, and apparent solidity of the simulated water. Together, the works in Motion In Division offer a critical reflection on urban hydrology as an archetypical urban intervention.
