TILLY DAVEY
FIGURE IT!
28 April - 7 May 2023, CCAS Manuka
Tilly Davey’s practice explores diverse expressions of human vulnerability and the many ways in which people encounter and confront daily struggles. Her work often explores the repercussions of inequitable power structures upon certain groups within the broader community. She works across a broad scope of mediums to produce both abstract and figurative works which commonly represent discombobulated forms of the human figure in various landscapes.
The exhibition Figure IT will showcase both paintings and sculptural ceramic forms which share a common aesthetic of gestural mark-making and are linked via fragments of text and use of colour. The ceramic forms capture the weight and vulnerability of parts of the human figure, together the forms and paintings project the figurative differences which people share. The gestural marks and use of colour shared between the ceramic forms and paintings create a sense of cohesion and remind us to contemplate what we hold on to and what we can let go of.
