FIONA VEIKKANEN
(2011)

Fiona Veikkanen's work shows a certain bemusement with, “ … the myriad of useless objects that exist in the world” while commenting on the absurdity of these items and the consumer culture that supports their production. She also wonders or questions the distinctions between art maker and mass manufacturer as producers of useful/useless objects.

Over the year she intends to explore the distinctions between sculptural/fine art objects, craft objects and the mundane everyday object. Her works attempt to make the distinctions difficult to distinguish, highlighting and/or breaking down these often, arbitrary categories.
